Virus- Mal/Generic A tmp1.tmp ??????

Norton tells me it's called Trojan.Horst, can't get rid of it.





Sophos tells me it's Mal/Generic A, also can't get rid of it.





I'm sick of downloading crappy programs that can't get rid of this thing that's causing pop up alert after alert telling me that


C:/WINDOWS/Temp/tmp[insert random number here].tmp had been detected, high risk, can't do anything about it. 400 at a time. Google gives me nothing useful. I don't want to nuke the computer. Does anyone have something to offer that I HAVEN'T HEARD ALREADY?!

I have AVG anti-virus, and it works really good. It detects and removes viruses,worms,Trojan horse's really efficiently. I've used it for about 4-5 years and I barely have any viruses. They have a free version and a pay one. Look at the site, they have anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, firewall too...





Get rid of it fast, I had some that made fake"back up copies" in my computer. They use the "back door". If it takes over, you have to reboot/reset (delete everything and start over)your computer.

Reply:You've mentioned using two different antivirus programs (Norton and Sophos). Anytime you have more than one antivirus installed they will conflict with each other causing neither to work properly.





I strongly suggest that you invest in a proper security suite (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) preferably from one reliable vendor (like McAfee or Norton) and ensure it is properly configured and kept completely and vigilantly up to date.





However, before you install the proper security suite you MUST uninstall all of these other ones and reboot.


Then ensure it is properly configured and that you completely update the proper security suite and reboot... once you have rebooted make sure ALL programs are closed and run a complete scan.





If this still does not allow you to remove the malware then you MUST read the instructions / messages that tell you what file it is not wanting to delete ... and you can either go into safe mode and manually remove the file and/or go into safe mode and attempt to run the scan.





If you are unable to handle this then it's time to contact a reliable and qualified technician.

Reply:one thing that was said hear that is true, you can only have one virus porgram on the computer at a time, but you may have as many spyware programs as you wish, personally I run 3, but only 1 at a time OK


ONe that will run in safe mode is AVG anti spyware, and its for spyware, malware and rootkits


also you can go to www.snapfiles.com


go to the freeware section


anti=virus tools section, look for the stand alone ones, save to a disk or jumpdrive, these can then be run in safe mode also, they will not clean ever thing but will usually get computer up enough for your normal programs to work


If your smart dump Norton's of which you pay ever yr for and try the free ones, free forever more
